We were sad to hear of legendary film star Gene Wilder's passing yesterday.
Wilder had many connections to The Muppets. Before he had even met first wife Gila Radner, she was guest on The Muppet Show:
Mel Brooks, his frequent collaborator on films such as The Producers, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein, had a cameo in The Muppet Movie.
As did Richard Pryor, who worked with Gene on the films Stir Crazy, Silver Streak, See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Another You.
Marty Felman, his friend and Young Frankenstein and The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother costar was also guest on The Muppet Show.
Wilder himself worked with Jim Henson's Creature Shop in the 1999 TV movie Alice in Wonderland where he played The Mock Turtle.
But by far his most notable connection to the Muppets was his titular role in 1971's Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory where he sang "Pure Imagination."
The song was later sung by Ben Vereen on The Muppet Show, and reused during a montage for The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 years special.
The Muppets performed the song again last year with Lindsey Stirling and Josh Groban:
According to Adweek, The Furchester Hotel is finally checking in to American TV!
Beginning September 26, the 11 minute episodes will air weekdays at 9 AM and weekends and 11AM on Sprout! The episodes will also be available on demand and streaming on the Sprout Now app.
Since the show began in 2014 it had only been officially available to US audiences through Sesame Street's YouTube channel, which have since been removed. The premise of the series is:
The Furchester Hotel is a half-star hotel that is owned by a monster family called the Furchester-Fuzz Family. The Furchester-Fuzz Family alongside Elmo and Cookie Monster will figure out how to solve different issues that are developed by the guests of the Furchester Hotel.
The series is a co-production of Sesame Workshop and The BBC. The series promotes problem-solving as the monsters try to figure out issues developed by their unique guests.
To help promote the show, Elmo and Cookie Monster will be appearing on Sprout's live morning show The Sunny Side Up Show during the first week.
Master of the jazz harmonica, Jean-Baptiste "Toots" Thielemans, has died at 94. Though his name my sound not be familiar, the sounds he laid down for Sesame Street's theme song surely are.
Over his illustrious career Toots performed with legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, and Quincy Jones, who once called Mr. Thielemans “one of the greatest musicians of our time.”
He can be heard on the soundtracks of movies like “Midnight Cowboy” and “The Getaway.” But his most lasting contribution for Muppet fans is that his riffs have been heard in the opening theme music of Sesame Street for more than four decades!
Fresh off thier recently released Muppet Show pint glasses, Diamond Select is back with more Muppet Show inspired drinkware - Muppet Show tumblers!
What's the difference between a tumbler and pint? A few dribbles I guess.
These glasses are meant to invoke the style of "fast food glassware of yesteryear" though some of the images/ compositions seen to work better than others.
The ones that work best feature one or two characters, like Bunsen and Beaker:
It may be one of those once you see it I can't be unseen things, but what's with the black hole in the logo's O? I'm pretty sure I know why the designer chose to that, but Kermit, a red curtain, or just clear might have worked better.
I think if Diamond stuck to one or two characters per glass like they did with their Back to The future set:
Or focused on one main character with others in the background, like their Ghostbusters tumblers, the Muppet set would have looked a bit nicer.
All in all though their, not bad looking with Bunsen & Beaker and Swedish Chef being the standouts. The glasses will be available individually available early next year, but you can pre-order them from Amazon using the links above.
The rumors flying around social media are true - Hot Topic has the first Labyrinth Pop! figure and it's an exclusive Jareth in his outfit from the finale of the film!

The records themselves come in different color variations based on the Fraggle characters. The Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober, or Red records are limited to 150 copies each, while the Sprocket and Trash Heap records are limited to 125 copies each.
Here's where it get a bit funky, each record has the same image of the Fraggles on the front and Trash Heap on the B side.
It would have been a lot nicer and made the color choices more apparent if the different characters they represented were on the flip side, especially since Sprocket is only seen in the gatefold map.

In case you missed it, The Electric Mayhem put on an amazing live performance last weekend.
It was part of the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco that also featured acts including Radiohead, Major Lazer, Third Eye Bland, and Lionel Ritchie.

With all those great acts, guess which band has gotten a majority all the press? That's right, The Electric Mayhem. The rockers that made their debut in the pilot for The Muppet Show stole the show!! Rolling Stoneeven called their performance on of the 5 best things that happened at the three days event!

It was a limited edition shirt sold at the festival! Just like every other major band has at their shows - merch!
Along with the official shirt, many fans in the audience made their own flags, banners and large cut outs of the band members. The show itself was a twenty-five minute set featuring five songs and a couple of video clips in order to give the Muppet performers arms a break. Ophelia (The Band) The finale was a gospel choir backed rendition of Joe Cocker's version of the Beatles’ With a Little Help From My Friends.
All seemed to be sung live in front of 70,000 people with a possibly pre recorded backing track!
